How do I go about showing poultry?

If you want to show at your state fair that is fine. Most state fairs have a junior show (different than 4H and the same time as an open show where adults show). You could enter into that. Some fairs even allow you to enter both the junior and open for one entry fee.

So there is a youth livestock show at the expo centre in march. And I have 1 brahma that I was hoping to show. The chicks I hope to get will be too young and just to get the experience I was hoping I could show peaches, my buff brahma. She seems to be the standard but again, she is from ideal and will be 2 by that time. Does it sound safe to enter her?

The exhibition birds are not butchered, however, the broilers are.

If you are looking for a standard of perfection bird to show, that is exhibition

If you are wanting meat birds (broilers), which I don't think you are with the breeds listed, then they get killed, but I don't know if you leave them at the show or what. I haven't had any experience.

okay. Thanks for that.

You can join 4-h at any time, and you can do shows with or without them. I was 17 when I joined, with I had been younger.... I have not showed chicken, but dairy goats. I'm glad I only took one to my first show. I would keep the number of birds low for your first few shows. The more you go to the more you learn about breeders, other shows ect... that about all I can offer
