How do I help one remaining lonely chick?

This is an awesome story and I hope we have the same luck with Pepper. He is a little happier (?) today but we have had no luck finding anyone with chicks. I do have some ameraucana eggs in the incubator due in 11 days or so, but they came a long way so don't know how well they will do. Maybe we can come up with something. I am a little concerned with letting Her / him roam yet, largely because I know they need to be kept warm for a while, especially seramas?. How old should they be before they can spend a fair amount of time out of the gulag?

Mirrors and feather dusters work for ducks too...

Boy can I relate! As I write this now, our hatchling has just fallen to sleep. She is the only one to hatch out of 11 shipped eggs and just seems miserable. I have a mirror and a toy inside and will now visit some feed stores EARLY tomorrow morning to find a few buddies. She is just frantic if my hand is not in the bin at all hours or does not have my cat, Sufi, right up against the box at all times. I have her in a transparent sterilite container so we can watch her (was hoping for at least two chicks) but maybe it was a mistake to have a clear bin. She doesn't seem to like being held, but then she is only 3 days old but I'm working with her on that.

I feel so bad for her (I assume it's a female).......I am afraid I am making her neurotic because she is alone.

The first few days were pretty miserable for our little guy. He now has two chick sized feather dusters, a mirror, and Garfield's "Pooky" the TY beanie baby. Regular visits with whichever of us is willing to be a perch for a while, helps too. Such a sweet little rascal, but he's doing better all the time. I realize he is going to think he(she?) is not a chicken at some point.
Am trying to upload a pic but I am incompetent.

Well I went out and purchased a day old Barred Rock chick. I dont' think it was a good move as she is so darn aggressive to little Parsley. Parsley is a Jersey Giant and is 4 days old and is a nice size. The BO is a terror ... she pulls his leg out away from him, pecks, fluffs up and pushes him away from the food, she'll even scratch aggressively the food under foot. Now, Parsley is scratching like mad and always hopping away when she charges...she goes for his toes hard.

But he is not screeching and pacing back and forth when he sees me leave.

Oh my. Well I will have to give it a try but I hope that doesn't happen. Maybe after a few days they'll get on better. Someone told me to be sure and get gentle breed chicks. I don't know about rocks as far as personality but Orphingtons are supposed to be kind, the Jerseys too.
