I need to clean ,one of my cockerals rear end but I am not sure how .I have a lot of cockerals and I manage those fine ,even the Jersey Giant .But I have an absolutely barmy cockeral ,(called Batty) ,its hard to get within a foot of him and he flaps and twists and screams as though hes being plucked alive if you do manage to catch him (I managed it once after dark while he was asleep and he shrieked blood curdling screams ,even covered up, ) .When we first got him two of us tried to keep hold of him and he still escaped.Another time he got so upset he flew/ran away and it took ages to find him because we had to wait until after dark so he didnt see us coming for him ,thats the only succesfull catch . .Eventually we gave up going too close because it upsets him ,the only time I did manage to catch him he was shaking all the time I had hold of him ,he was in a bachelor flock before we got him so I suspect he was bullied and we put him in his own coop with three hen that we bought the same time but one bullied him overnight and he came shrieking out of the coop the next morning and it was weeks before we got him to sleep in a coop again.
But hes got a mucky rear end ,not the odd bit of muck ,chickens sometimes get .Its looks a big clump. Its mix of mud poop and woodshavings. He wont roost even though hes settled with his own (nicer ) hens he sleeps on a shelf ,so hes probably got muddy then got matted poop and sawdust mixed in .Hes still able to poop and still mating with hens .But its been a few days and its getting quite bad .
How can I hold him and clean him ? I am not convinced he would sit in a bowl of water and it winter here and very cold .Or should I cut it off ,but if so how do I keep him still ? Hes not huge but hes a full size Auracuana.Or should I just leave it and hope for the best ,considering all the stress its going to cause
