How do I keep my rooster from crowing?

So "Mrs Fluffy" is not a Mrs...

I have to quiet him down somehow...all my tricks have failed...he is not a dog

treats don't work...the first morning I held him and every time he started I pet his throat to make him stop...not a long term solution...any suggestion?

Today a Sunday he started at 6:15 ... my hubby suggested leaving him in the coop while the rest of the girls were out...needless to say it did not work.

My city does not allow roosters so I am very sad...any suggestions? The rescue is my only thought right now...the boys are very sad...as am I 9he is about 12 weeks old)

As far as I know there really is no way to stop a rooster from crowing. Although, some breeds crow more than others. I've got a couple roos that I really need to rehome. I like you, am attached to them, and hate to do this. BUT, when you aren't allowed to have them, what choice have you got?

Too bad the cant de-crow them like they de-bark dogs. I think rehomeing him or culling him are your only choices. So sad. I was afraid of this happening to me too but so far all girls. No roosters allowed in my town either.

I just love watching him look for bugs in the backyard...would hate for him to be cooped up at a shelter...we are in the Southern California area...any takers?

Sorry, but there is no way, that I have ever heard of, to muffle a roo. Your only choice, as I see it, is to join the ranks of those of us keeping Outlaw Roos. We are a loose knit bunch of rebels living on the edge. Waiting for that fateful visit from code enforcement when we will take our cause to the city council and argue for our birds. Some of us are successful while some give in and abide by the rules.
So hey, what have you got to loose? All my neighbors have said they like the sound (plus I give them eggs occassionaly) so until someone calls me in I will boldly defend my right to keep a roo.

Have a RIR, got him, free to a good home... reason being, he crows all the time! They failed to mention that. As long as the sun is up, he may crow.... when he sees me outside, he crows like crazy..... want's attention, and the only thing that quiets him are treats, and that is ONLY temporary LOL.... good luck, I don't think you can change a crower!

Didn't think so...have some animal lovers as neighbors...but they also love to sleep in ... have promised them eggs as soon as my girls are ready

it sure does get me out of bed

by the way have not gotten the nesting boxes ready...any simple suggestions out there?
