How do I know if my chicken is getting close to laying eggs ?

I recently took in 3 chickens, 2 of them are laying, the other is not. Her comb is not as red as the other two, she seems to be an Easter Egger. Any hints ?

Each of mine started squatting about 2 weeks before they started laying eggs. In case you don't know, squatting is when they half lower themselves to the ground and half stick out their wings when you hover your hand over their backs. It's a little hard to describe, but the ones who are already laying will probably do it so you can see what it looks like 🙂

Thank you , and should I be watching out for the color on their comb, does that help tell me anything ?

I think the comb color change started about a month before laying for some of them, but I don't really remember. I just remember that it seemed like we waited forever for our first egg when it was really less than 5 months for our Dominiques. My Easter Eggers laid at about 6 months old.
