How do I know?

I am new to owning chickens and I was wondering how I know if a barred rock is a hen or a rooster. They are about 4 months old. Should they be crowing by now? So far from the pictures I have looked at I think I have all hens. But most of them have large combs......I don't know.....HELP!!!!
