Here, there, and everywhere...
I just scored this on Craigslist:

I'd like to make it into a small duck pond buired in the ground up to the top with a filteration system since it won't be able to be dumped. Anyone have a filtered duck pond?

I've tried and it hasn't been successful. Their poo just over loads any filtration that I've tried. Or what ever they manage to drag into the pond kills the pump. Decided I would need a sewage pump(expensive). Maybe someone else has had success at this. If so I'd also like to know. Now I just drain and clean it every other day.

I was afraid of that...

I wonder if I leave the original drain in the tub intact and then build it a platform to sit it in with sand or something underneath for drainage if I could just "pull the plug" and drain it out and refill... It needs to be pleasing to the eye since the ducks can be seen in full view from my front yard and driveway.

I like the ad. Simple, to the point and no nonsense!

We have 2- 350 gallon ponds from Home Depot. We got a pond pump (the more powerful the better) and attach it to a garden hose. We lower the pump in the pond in one of those baskets they sell near the pumps and pump the water to the garden. It is fast and the water goes further.

The ducks really enjoy the ponds because they are deep enough to dive and tip up and float.

I enjoy them because I enjoy watching the ducks enjoying the pond.

In "Raising the Home Duck Flock" by Dave Holderread, there's instructions & illustrations on how to keep a swim tank cleaner. You're still gonna have to do maintenance, because in confinement, they just aren't clean critters.

A filtration system that you might use for a backyard pond won't work with ducks.........they make a mess of their water in an instant.

I use the effluent/sewage type pumps that will handle solids. Forget any of the regular sump pumps, you will be unclogging it constantly.
