How do I move 100 chickens from Ca. to Florida

i would definatly hook up like an auto watering system go with nipple waterers that push into the pvc have the pvc pipe connected to a large storage tank with a hose or something have a lid on the storage tank but with a couple vent holes the lid is mostly to prevent splashing

these are the nipples i use for quail i have also used them on growout pens http://www.farmtek.com/farm/supplie...ering_systems-ft1_hoses_nipples;287f0f77.html

I have had great luck "interviewing" hauling companies via www.uship.com. It's sort of like eBay. You list your shipment and all of the requirements and people will bid on the job. You can ask for their license information, their recommendations and find out if they have prior experience.

I had one company move 10 adult dewlap toulouse geese, 10 silkies and 10 ducks, along with an incubator from Ohio to New York (It was a purchase). I paid $350. They left Ohio in the AM and were at my house that evening. Great shape. They were happy and settled in immediately.

Then, I had another company bring up my Humidaire incubator along with another group of geese and ducks (totalling around 25), from Georgia to New York. The price was around $400. This was an overnight trip, but they arrived in great shape, and get here in about 24 hours.

I've also used UShip to move dogs, horses, and goats. Only had one bad experience and it wasn't because of safety, it was just one hauler had a bad attitude with people, but loved the animals.

You can go check it out and see how it works.

you dont have a friend with a plane you could talk into flying them out there somewhere? and then just have someone transport them from wherever they land to their new diggs.

can't they fly ?

seriously, i would check on the regulations pertaining to interstate transportation of livestock. Cali can be a little wierd about some of these things. i once had a state border inspector in CA dump all the dirt from a cactus i dug up on our property in AZ.
hurry up before they realize your chickens expend CO2.

beefy, my friend with the plane has a broken leg and a shoulder thing. I dont wanna feel obligated or dept to him, besides Rick is a neat freak he wont even let Carol in his plane cause she is a slob

flop, california is strict about things coming in, when we moved here we had to have some dude come to our house and check all our garden tools and stuff. they were looking for signs of the gypsie moth i think that it what its called. If my chickens cant move back to florida with me legally ill smuggle them in. I love all of my chickens they keep me out of trouble

I think the stock trailer with screen ar hardware cloth over the openings would be a good way to go. For water, if you could get them drinking out of waterbottles, the ymake some good sized ones and I believe that you could screw them onto milk jugs or two liter bottles if you got the right size. Thats a lot of chickens, but it would be easier for you if they could drink from water bottles.

Or... charter a cargo plane.

I like the stock trailer idea too, but I wouldn't leave them loose inside. I would partition off sections and put 10 or so together. They'll keep each other company and keep from rocking around too much. The trick then would be to make your trip as quick as possible. I'd also add electrolytes to their water on the trip as it is apt to be stressful for them being cooped up for such a long trip.

Be sure to let us know how the trip goes.

Couple questions,
Are you moving whole household, or just chickens?
If moving whole house what are you moving the rest of it with.... are you already renting a truck, do you have something that can haul a trailer? Remember this is a move in june, so it will be hot across southern US at that time. Open trailer with chicken crates(stacking kind) is a thought, but what type of budget are you under, if money is no object....

We are moving the whole house, and we will use a moving company. My children and animals along with my plants will not be traveling with us. Money is not the issue, humanity is, and having the chickens be as comfortable as possible. I am getting a pretty good idea of what I need to do. I am now wondering if they need to be vaccinated. I can wait until after the summer to move the birds if that is a better way. I will be later posting about what kind of coops and pens that I will need once I get to Florida. I don't want a hurricane to blow my chickens away. Further, now that I am thinking about it should I worry about having my chickens that are so used to California climate move to Florida climate
