I live in zone 9b and the temperature now reaches a high of 102 degrees. I have allowed my hen to lay in her nest without collecting her eggs so she can go broody, but after candling the first two I noticed blood ring. I’m guessing the heat has made the eggs begin development but then died soon after because of the temperature drop at night? My question is how can I prevent future eggs from developing before my hen goes broody and lays on them. Should I collect them daily and then return them back to the nest once there is enough for her to lay on, or should I play it safe and use an incubator?
