Ive only had chickens for a few weeks so would like some help and advice on introducing my chicken Gertie back into the flock.

Gertie had not been well for a few days, off her food, sleeping and not walking, upset stomach. Vet thinks she had an infection as she has been laying very frail eggs and none at all for a good few days now. She is almost certainly 'all worn out' from her caged life before. Antibiotics seem to be doing the trick.

Gertie has been in the kitchen for a few days, perching on the strutts on the bottom of the table and chairs. Bless her. She seems to be getting back on her feet and is now eating and walking around alot better.

The other three chickens, Big momma, Miss Piggy and Necky , lol, regularly come into the kitchen and peck around but two of them have now started pecking her on the head and I'm scared they will really hurt her. I know they have a pecking order but will this get to the point they really hurt her?

I am gradually letting Gertie in the garden under supervision but what should I do for the best?

thanks

First I would wait until she is strong and healthy again or she will most likely get picked on by the other hens.
Once she is healthy again the easiest way I have found to introduce a new hen is to put the new hen in a small pen inside your coup/run where the other hens can see her daily but not get to her. I use a metal dog crate. Leave her in it for a few days and then release her back at night. I also throw some feed around the area where the pen or crate is so the other hens must come around her. I'm sure there are other ways of introducing a new hen but this is what has worked for me.

will do! many thanks for the advice
