How do I remove the spurs

There are several ways that I've seen talked about here to trim them. One other option is the "hot potato" method, which I'll link you to. I haven't tried it, but others on here have I believe. My roosters spurs are getting pretty pointy now but I think I'm going to try to just round them off with hubby's Dremmel.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

I have had great success with using pet nail trimmers and the help of my DH. Just make sure you dont cut to far back. I was told to only go 1/2 way down the spur. I did that and still went to far and he bled a little. the Bloodstop powder works miracles in that case. I put a bandaid around it. (I know I am a moron)

You can use a hot baked potato and place it on the spur. Use a pot holder to hold the potato in place to the base of the spur without touching the leg for 1 minute. Then remove the potato and use pliers to easily twist off the spur. There's another much smaller spur attached to the leg once the larger spur is removed. I dont recommend removing the smaller spur. There might be a little blood once the large spur is removed. You can rub neosporin on the area if you wish. Repeat the procedure with the other spur. Then once the potato cools, you can give the potato to your roo.

once again, the man comes through! nice Jim.
