Tolbunt! Aww if I lived anywhere remotely close i would take him

I've wanted tolbunts for a while. I'm happy to say that my blue polish is currently in an amazing home with a little girl who loves him.

my Delaware is also in a great home. (honestly though i really didn't like the Delaware, but he wouldn't be meat) i sold mine for $15 and they went to happy homes

I'm really going to miss my tolbunt roo. He's really quite friendly. He eats out of my hand and is handled easily. At least I have a tolbunt pullet from the same hatch who is cute as can be. The person I'm selling the roo to will send me photos and update me on him since he knows I've become attached to him.
400
this is him.

I had to put a rooster on a local classifieds site last night, and in my ad I said that he is free to a great home on the condition that he be kept alive. What I look for in people responding to my ad is people with decent punctuation, people that aren't demanding and someone willing to develop some type of rapport with you. Also, go with your gut.

I've had 2 responses already, and one of them was a HUGE red flag for me. The person said "hi good morning do you still have your rooster please I need him"....I didn't feel comfortable with that at all. You NEED him? For what?

The person who won me over was polite and willing to talk to me and explain why he wanted him. He has some hens in a nice coop with trees in it and the rooster would have a really nice life.

I think you just need to go with your gut. That's what I do. If you don't find someone right away, keep trying. Someone will eventually want to take a roo and give it a good home. I am a "crazy chicken lady" now, and I made sure the guy who wants him knew that I have expectations of him taking the rooster since I became attached to the little guy.

Hope this helps.
With the first guy i could tell he hardly knew any english, he spelled things wrong and didn't punctuate at all. Then he called me and he was obviously hispanic and he said my animals need them. That was my red flag. Then another guy called me from a town known for a lot of crime, drugs so i will have him call me. I will also make sure and edit the post to say that "I will not sell if they are going to be killed". Next time they call i will be sure to ask if i could see a pic of there coop so " I can see if there is something they will need".

See how much chicken meat sells at the grocery store per lb.
Multiply that by the weight of your bird and don't sell if for less than that. It's the only way you'll know that it won't get eaten by most people.

Edit: Also, I find the generalization about people of my race being into fighting chickens a bit offensive. A lot of the poor uneducated immigrants that come here, thereby not speaking English, come from poor peasant backgrounds and are used to keeping their own chickens for eggs and meat. They often times believe that a rooster is necessary for their hens to lay eggs or just want a rooster to keep their hens safe since most will let them wander.

I sold mine for $15 nobody is going to pay that much for a year old bird to put on a plate its not worth it

If they have a pressure cooker, tough meat is no problem. It will get that bird soft in about an hour. I've eaten old goat I bought at the local African grocer and it was quite tender.

Ya our next guy is buying a white rock roo from us for his 4yro granddaughter, we are actually dropping it off at his house so we can help him identify his hens
