My Pekin has been broody for over 3 months now. On several occasions I have removed her from the nest and put her in another hen house over night with no nest box, when I let them out in the morning she has something to eat, then she off back to the main hen house to sit once more, putting her in a bowl of cold water hasn't worked either. Does anyone have any other ideas on how to stop her spending all her time sitting in a next with no eggs. She raised some chicks last year , but for some reason she decided to scalp 2 of the chicks, which we then had to dispatch and removed the rest of the chicks to safety.

A good old fashioned "broody buster" cage is in order. Putting her in the other hen house with no nest box didn't work because she doesn't need the box to nest and likely just 'nested' within the house (on the floor, etc). A broody buster cage is a wire cage with an open (wire) bottom - in this cage is the hen, water and feed....do not place any bedding, etc in the cage. Place the cage so that it is elevated from the floor (up on bricks works) to allow good air flow to get up under the bird. Leave her in there for a good few days - let her out for a test and, if she goes right back to wanting to broodiness you put her back in the cage and repeat.
