How do I stop my chicks from throwing food and wasting food?

My chicks are constantly pushing food out of the feeder and kicking it EVERYWHERE, the main issue is that the don't even eat the food that's on the ground in the brooder, how do I stop this behavior or prevent it?

My chicks are constantly pushing food out of the feeder and kicking it EVERYWHERE, the main issue is that the don't even eat the food that's on the ground in the brooder, how do I stop this behavior or prevent it?

One way is to raise the feeder level with their backs. Some may still "bill" out the feed.. from boredom or looking for just the right piece to eat.

Another way is to make it into a mash by wetting it down. Finding a consistency that works well is a bit of trial and error, but worth it in my experience.

You might encourage them to forage what's on the ground more.. by removing the feeder for a SHORT while.

These are techniques I use that help to minimize (not completely eliminate) food waste successfully.

ETA: I also modify feed dishes if needed by making higher sides (using duct tape), etc and making it harder for them to bill out.
