How do I tie up silkies hat? **feeble attempt pic**

I just remembered that when I was a dog groomer, we used tiny clear rubber bands to hold bows in poofy little dogs hair. We had a technique that I can't fully remember where we'd use forceps to stretch the bow out, then grab the hair with the forceps and with our hand we'd pull the rubber band over the hair. If you know a dog groomer maybe they could help figure this out better than I can remember or explain...

I would use a little suave unscented gel...just enough to feel it on your fingers, not even a full drop and then use an infant/baby barrette. Those specific barrettes are small, made for fine hair and hold snug. I have seen some of the silkies pictured here with them in their "hair"/hat

Update on tying up the hat:
I tried many of the suggestions: rubber bands, silicone bands, barretts. The barrett pics were blurry. Desiree just hated it and scratched at it until it came out (which took about 3 seconds). So no post.
I did not try the tape or hair gel because it has been so dad gum rainy here and I dont want it to get into her eyes. So I've bee arguing with my SO on whether or not to cut the hair.
Then something happened. I went out to check on them and noticed that Desiree had something stuck to her head. Upon further inspection, it was a slug stuck in her hair. Yep, a slug. So I pulled it out. But the slug slime remained. And her hair remained in the same position for a few days. So now, I'm thinking I'm going to rub slug slime in her hair. Does this sound totally insane? It'll wash out, not irritate her eyes and holds on like glue. Not to mention the opportunity to wreck a slugs day.

Anyway here's a more recent pic of Desiree and of her with her ...man maybe?? - Lafonda.
Lafonda can see alright.

I’m extremely late but the really small rubber bands seem to work. My silkie is only 7-8 weeks old so i’m not sure if it works for older ones, i’m guessing so. But here’s some pics.

I have never had luck putting it up, they always take it out no matter what I use, trimming left them look horrible and the small feathers irritates their eyes. I learned from Silkie breeders that if your not showing plucking the feathers between the eye and the beak/ comb. I was hesitant at first but it did go a lot better than trimming and less stressful for her. This works perfect it only takes a few minutes, go slow and only pluck a couple at a time. Before and after pictures this poor girl was in her own little world most of the time. Now she is active and the first to the food bowl.
