How do I travel with chickens...what do I put them in????

Perhaps some, to make them comfortable but not too much so that you negate the rubber no-skid advantage. I guess just use your judgement. Howeve,r since you only have three hens, I have to wonder if smaller 'cat size' carriers might not be better, one for each hen - keep them comfy but they won't be able to move around much and of course slide if you hit the breaks. Of course, with the larger carrier you could have a waterer in there, too...as long as it didn't tip over and get everything wet.

Very creative ideas, but I bet they didn't have them in the back of the truck for 3 hours, or they would have been selling some very wind whipped birds

you are probably right! We avoided wind whipped birds by putting the birds in an enclosed trailers on the way home. Defianetly might pose a problem if they are out in the open.
