How do people let their chickens free range in their front yard without chickens running into the road and getting hit?

'Some folks just don't care! The girl who lives behind me at my new place "had" 70 chickens and 15 ducks when we first purchased the property back in May. She now has about 15-20 chickens, and 7 ducks. They just wonder about, I've seen one picked off by an owl, a hawk, a dog killed a few of the chicks and left them in my front yard:mad: It's a sad deal when animals are treated like that, but you can't save them all and you can't change the way some folks think.'

True, True. I knew an annoying neighbor who would let their cat outside and she would let it eat the rats and chickens and all that stuff that it would eat and catch "oh the cat is apart of the ecosystem" then once day the cat got snatched by a hawk and was never seen again. I told the neighbor "oh the cat was apart of the eco system, just like you said" thats when the neighbor started hating me, lol

Also the cat tried to eat my silkies before so that was the first time as a chicken keeper I respected hawks and was glad the cat got taken away

Yes it is! It also tells me something about that person too.
Our neighbor didn't get their young female cat spayed before she had kittens and she showed up at my house looking for food after she had some. She waited a week before she brought the kittens across the highway. She carried them one at a time! My daughter in law found a lady on on Facebook to take the momma kitty after she weaned the kittens. By then she looked a lot better and gained a lot of weight. We kept the kittens. This is Peppy!

The irony! A big bird eating a cat that eats smaller birds. Its like seeing a chipmunk eat a baby chick then a cat comes a long and eats the chipmunk.

We are rural on a dead end road and have been the recipients of others relocation/drop-offs. I think because we sell our eggs and everyone around knows we have birds and that we will take care of whatever, but I don't. I am very cautious about my birds and don't put strange birds in with my flocks. There are some places where the birds are left to roam on their own.

My chickens are always jumping the fence into the front yard. I tried and tried to stop them but they just don’t care. They go in the ditch next to the road but as soon as a car comes they run toward the house so that makes me feel a little better. They have never crossed the road.

Have you tried trimming their flight feathers?

And if they do, you'll scratch your head and wonder why!
