I'm about to get a pet dove. I have a large flight cage.
Can someone outline exactly how you disinfect your cage?
- Where do you put your bird while you're cleaning the cage?
- How do you rinse the cage when it's winter (I live in a place with frigid winters) and you can't hose it out in the yard?
- What disinfectants do you use? I've found a lot of cleaners, but actual germ-killing, bird-safe disinfectants?
- Any techniques or products you'd recommend?

Thank y'all so much!

As for disinfectants, I use F10, a veterinary grade disinfectant. I highly recommend this one as it is extremely effective.

For a dove, unless it's hand tame I recommend placing it into a crate while you clean, as they can sometimes freak out when you remove them from the cage.

If you have a porch or garage, you can rinse the cage off and then drag it back inside to dry off to avoid ice.

As for cleaners, I use a bird safe product called Nature Pet that removes poop using enzymes. You spray it on, leave it for a minute and it comes right off. I've used it for parrots, pigeons, doves, chickens, as well as small mammals. It works fantastic.
