How do you ever leave home?

I found a really nice pet sitter in my area. Rates are reasonable and she'll take some of her pay in eggs. I have auto doors on my coops, but she comes by to close the run doors, collect eggs, shake the feeders if needed and just makes sure that everything is ok (head count, etc). I don't have her do anything too heavy like scrape poop, but for a few days this is enough assuming you have an adequate food and water supply in place.

I put the word out to my egg customers and sure enough got a sitter for $10 a day and all the eggs. You need to set someone up in advance for emergencies. I was so glad I did.

Best neighbor in the world....lol... Seriously I will asks friends to come and open them up, feed and water. I will not ask a friend to clean the coop

. I do payback with eggs (well the new flock needs to start laying first but you get the picture!)..

I have retirees on both sides of me and children another house down. Between them, someone is bound to be home and willing to trade eggs for taking a quick look around (especially since they wouldn't have to worry about feeding or watering or even going inside the coop). So, the plan is to trade whatever eggs are laid while we're gone (and maybe a couple of bucks if it's the kids) for a daily, afternoon visit.
