Seems many people feed their hens everyday... I just have a hanging feeder in the coop and a feeder in the yard. Both will last a loooooong while without me having to feed them daily.

It sounds lazy because it is... will that work?

its depending on your feed, and conditions. if your chickens are free range and on layer crumble, you will probably only have to clean some dust out of the bottom of the feeder occasionally. (but) i wouldnt put any more in the feeder than they can eat in 2-3 days just to help keep it bug free and less chance of mold.

if your chickens are in a coop and your mixing your feed in any way, they will eat what they are craving and leave some feed behind. the remaining feed will keep what they are wanting/needing from falling to where they can get it.

-only recommendation would be to put the feeders in a container with a lid (metal trash can, etc.) in the evening when they go to roost. This will keep mice/rats from invading the coop or helping themselves to the feed during the night.
