Yes, dark greens will help. But what do bugs eat but plants also so they are good source also. You just can not do the same with feeding. I think it is more than just the food but the work involved and the happiness of the chickens too. Store bought feed just does not cut it when it comes to those sweet orange yolk free range eggs. They are getting more with grass and bugs and ground than we know or can mimick.
They get a lot of table scraps, free-range, and a small amount of layer mash. I think it's just being outside in the sun eating bugs and grass that makes a good egg. It's what chickens are naturally supposed to eat.
and the vote is in it is free ranging your chickens................had someone ask me for 100 dozen eggs a week.......addicted but not that far gone yet

Gads if this happened to me hubby would take time off to build another coop ASAP. He already told me if we sell he was going to expand ours now that we just fininshed. Gotta love that man.
