How do YOU get those beautiful orangey yolks?

I, too, have to jump in on free ranging- once I began, the yolks deepened to orange and are beautiful!

So, they're jumping the garden fence and demolishing my Swiss Chard is what's making the yolks orange?

Well, we feed ours leftover / damaged garden produce, and we're up to our .... in chard at the moment, so you might be on to something.

Yes, dark greens will help. But what do bugs eat but plants also so they are good source also. You just can not do the same with feeding. I think it is more than just the food but the work involved and the happiness of the chickens too. Store bought feed just does not cut it when it comes to those sweet orange yolk free range eggs. They are getting more with grass and bugs and ground than we know or can mimick.

Our eggs are dark orange also

They get a lot of table scraps, free-range, and a small amount of layer mash. I think it's just being outside in the sun eating bugs and grass that makes a good egg. It's what chickens are naturally supposed to eat.

Me too; "not yet" but getting there! Maybe this forum should have a topic called "Chicken Lovers Anonymous".

A little bit of whole kernal or cracked coen will give you a golden yolk.

Corn is in every bag of laying feed, grower, starter.

They should. It's not a yellow yolk at all. It's vibrant orange. Obviously the more ranging they can do the better. Saves on feed costs too.

Gads if this happened to me hubby would take time off to build another coop ASAP. He already told me if we sell he was going to expand ours now that we just fininshed. Gotta love that man.
