How do you get water and food to your chickens? (Share your storys!)

I wish I knew.

Yeah, we get the same bill for water every month so it doesn't matter how much we use... But its still nice to have an idea on how much water you use.

We use a PVC feeder in the coop but I'm thinking of moving it outside and adding a second one since we're about to double our flock size (going from 4 to 8 or 9). We also use a nipple system hooked to a 3 gallon bucket that hangs outside the coop and gets the runoff from the roof (we're in the process of adding a "roof washing" section so they don't get the dirty part). I love the nipples. There is no more constant cleaning. I always felt bad when I go out and their water was filthy. We use a plastic cup with a nipple on the bottom for the brooder. The chickens pick up drinking from them with no problem.

In the freezing weather I have a 1 gallon plastic waterer similar to the one pictured previously that I put a reptile heater under to keep it from freezing. I put it on top of a concrete block but they still manage to get it filthy and it needs constant attention.

The PVC waterer cost us about $5 at home depot + $8 for the 5 nipples on amazon. The PVC feeder cost roughly $10 at home depot.

Question for those that feed outside the coop... how do you keep the rain from getting to it? I was thinking of putting the opening under the coop and capping the top where I put the food in but wondering if that's enough.

great thread. I am housing 6 hens and soon to add a couple of turkeys. I just ordered a large waterer and trough feeder from amazon. The little quart waterer and chick feeder is not cutting it! I have been adding some scraps and scratch a few times. The bedding is hay and they nibble on that as well. Its fun to see them dart all over the run chasing bugs. "free treats."

I am a newbie here so bear with me. But I picked up 6 sexlinks over Easter. 3 black, 3 gold. But now the gold are filling out as red. A RIR in the mix? I dunno. They are really personable and the kids are having no trouble whatsoever. The turkeys are hopefully 1 Tom, 1 Hen of Rio Grande variety. A friend of mine and I picked up a few to hopefully get some "pairs" to breed with. He is the poultry man and has the experience here. lol. The poults are very chirpy and love to be held and just follow people around. As they get bigger, I will introduce them back into the run. More chances for feeding and socializing. BTW, the tom is named "gravy" and the hen is "din-din". Unfortunately, these will not be consumed this Nov.
