How do you guys feel about the booster seat laws being put in place?

I just want to restate that I believe and support children being in booster
seats. I see people being irresponsible and letting kids hang out windows.

The quest for me is where do we draw the line on government intervention?

It's probably for the best to have a law mandating boosters, seatbelts,
etc, for children who can't make that decision for themselves.

There are plenty of other laws we can scrap.

I do adore you too and completely agree. It's like I said in my previous
post, there are plenty of other laws that need to be dumped. This is
probably (ok definately) one of the good laws.

As far as the question about what we think, I think it if makes my grandchildren safer than i'm for it. If it would save one of them or all of their lives then I'm glad they figured it out. My grandson that is 8 I still make use a booster seat. He weighs 54 pounds, not sure of his height. He doens't mind at all either. I got him one that lookes ike a car seat and he likes it alot. He can see better around him. He loves to look for wildlife, especially deer.

Just not a bike rally, I'd look darn silly with training wheels..... Hubby keeps saying he's going to buy me a granny tricycle with a basket.

Helps them see out of the car window too so my kids like a booster seat.

Well first of all I have never been in a carseat myself. I was rarely in the seat when I was old enough to sit on my own. I was usually sitting in the very back of my grandmother's station wagon waving at cars behind us. The whole thing is rarely if ever enforced in Japan.

My son will still be extended rear facing (30lbs rather than 20lbs) and he will be in whatever seat till he outgrows it by weight or height, not age.

As for me, I wear my seatbelt in the front seats but I have a habit of not wearing any in the back.

I still find it ironically funny that one of the biggest advocates for being able to be in a car without a seatbelt died in a car accident he could have easily survived in if he had his seatbelt on.

I don't really have an opinion of what others do. I know I make parenting choices that will make others want to call CPS on me.

I didn't manage to read all the posts but want to throw in my 2 cents. First, I am GLAD there are car seat and booster seat laws for kids. Kids don't make stupid choices for themselves, and YES, children die when they are not secured in vehicles. As for adult seat belt laws, I guess that should be up to the individual.....if you aren't concerned about your own safety, neither am I.

My youngest is 8. He weighs 43 pounds now. *sigh* the weight requirement here is 60 pounds. We joke he will be driving to his own wedding in a booster seat. LOL

I totally disagree about the preemie babies not fitting properly thing I read, too. YES, preemies fit quite well if you use all the little inserts and rolled blankets you need. My oldest was a 1 lb 14 oz preemie. When he finally got to come home from the hospital I would have wrapped him in a suit of armor for the trip if I could have. You couldn't have paid me enough or forced me to have him unprotected in the car!

I had a fairly nasty wreck about 3 1/2 years ago. All of the kids and I were secured as we are supposed to be. Not one of us suffered a single scratch. In fact, when it was over the kids said "so, THAT'S what a wreck feels like????". If one of my little ones had the seat belt across their neck (where it would have been if two had not been in boosters), it very well could have had a much uglier ending.

My good friend had a five-year-old sister die in a car accident when she was a child (we are in our 30's). The injuries which killed her came from the seatbelt coming her across her abdomen, crushing her internal organs. My three children were all in car seats and booster seats until this summer (my nine-year-old daughter is tall enough that the belt fits properly). A class on car seat installation at our local hospital during my first pregnancy put the fear of God into me about the importance of car seats and booster seats. They are easy to use, and if they save my child from death or injury I will gladly use them. We are in WA state and such laws have been in place for many years.
