AH, but it's only the parents wou would put them in their boosters anyway who are following the law!
I understand what seatbelts are for, but I do believe it should be OUR choice as to if we use them or not. It should be OUR choice if we use carseats or boosters.
We have a constitutional right to life (and to live it as we as individuals see fit, NOT how Joe Smoe down the road tells us we should live it), to own property (a car is property), and the pursuit of happiness. The goverment has NO right to interfere with any of it.
As for infant seats and seatbelts saving lives, not always. I can give you two examples right off.
1) My 10 yr old sister's pediatrician had a 16 year old daughter. The 16 yo was driving her grandmother to the store or somewhere. It was winter time, and in the town they were in they had to drive pass the river. She hit black ice, slid into the river. Granddaughter did get out of her seatbelt, but grandmother was trapped in hers in the back seat. Instead of leaving her grandmother, the girl crawled into the back seat, trying to free her grandmother. Both drowned.
2) About 2 Christmas ago a family of 7 was coming home from visiting family for the holidays. Family included a mom, dad, and 5 children, with the youngest being an 8 week old infant. Everyone was properly strapped in, and the baby was in a carseat. They were hit head on by a drunk driver. Their van literally split apart, and the 8 week old baby was catapulted car seat and all from the vehicle. Only the dad and one of the older children survived.
I believe, no matter what the statistics say, that there is always a 50/50 chance you're going to be injured or killed in a car whether you wear a seat belt or not or use a car seat or not.
It should be a personal choice, not government mandated. Honestly, everytime I leave in my car and make it home safely, I am thankful!
*we are a seatbelt and carseat using family, so I am not against buckling up, I'm just against the goverment telling us it's mandatory.
