That's gotta hurt when tha pasties come off?

Why would the horizontal nips work better, would i need to run that line to the nip. I have vertical nips with a 5 gal bucket and a 250watt stock tank heater the water is liquid but the nips are frozen. 12 degrees this am and they were frozen. Chickens got their first taste of snow yesterday, 4ft in 36 hrs gotta love buffalo!

I use the 250w stock tank heater, horizontal nipples, 5gal bucket and the nipples don't freeze down to -9f. Same setup with vertical nipples froze the nipples about +20f, I don't recall the exact temp, but the nipples were frozen most of the time until I switched the the horizontals.

Since I started this thread a couple of months ago, I suppose I should reply.  Thanks for all the responses including those dealing with , well you know, and to daddyman who said "(If loving boobies is wrong, then I don't want to be right.)" I say, me too!

I have yet to find any horizontal nipples.  Where do I get them outside of FleaBay?  The good ones made by Solway?  Thanks and regards,  Woody

If you still need the horizontal nipples, you can email Rich directly at [email protected]. I just ordered some more from him and they shipped quickly. He's the USA distributor for Solway. Nice guy.

Why? Because they are built and operate differently.

The vertical nipples have a gravity activated ball bearing to seal them, that ball bearing is in a tiny tube a half inch away form the vessel contents, that tiny tube full of water freezes pretty fast.

The horizontal nipples have a spring activated o-ring to seal them, that o-ring is inside the vessel immersed in warm water(if heated).

That's why.
