How do you live with yourself eating the birds you raised?

If I had a chicken at pet status like a dog, I could not eat that particular chicken... now in a culture that dog is not considered a pet animal, but livestock much like chickens, you get the idea.

I'm sure part of the world thinks some cultures are terrible for eating cows or killing rats, or perhaps they do not press their values on others as much as it seems some cultures like to do.

Very much how we do things here (ok, except for the crow part

). I love them all, even the ones who are bound for the freezer because they were born cockerel. Their deaths are quick, they do not panic and never know that humans can be bad.

Well my brother in-law lives where it is part of the culture to eat dog and he does, but he could not eat a dog he raised as a pet.

It all depends on where you live and your culture. I have traveled to parts of the world where the family dog would be on the table faster than you could say "see spot run". Read some history and you will find native Americians ate it. And to be flat honest dog meat is actually pretty good.

You said a mouthful there

From being overseas that's exactly what we as Amerecians are most noted for, trying to press our values and culture on other peoples. Ever heard the term "ugly Amercian" ie if I shout somebody that doesn't speak english can understand me, or speak very slowly "word - pause- word".

We even do it to ourselves...... How can you live with yourselves.

yes I could, a chicken to me hold the same value as a dog, why should it be any different? JMHO

I can't do it either. My birds were named from Day 1 and all play their part here to provide eggs and make me happy. When it comes down to it, THOSE are the key atributes I expect from any of my birds. That is the role they play in our home. To this, I say, I don't think my birds could have a better life.

I hold no animosity to anyone who eats their own birds. In fact, I praise them at times for being strong and doing what makes THEM happy. My veiws are never really smiled upon by the majority. That's okay.
