This is my usual way as well ~ also, I have found that the scriptures are an invaluable resource. If you have a Bible or other scriptures handy, and pray for God's help, He will often lead you to a scripture that will stand out and help you in your decision making process. Also, as Cindiloohoo said, & ridgerunner as well, working out what your options are can help immensely.
once the decision is made ~ again, ridgerunner has it right on the nose.
I know it probably doesn't help you any, but I think the best thing is to weigh the options, make a decision, and go for it. Do not play the what if game afterwards. You made the best decision with information available at the time and that was the right decision for you.
Involve God, use the resources available to make the best decision available, make your choice, involve God again, ask Him if that's the right choice, if you don't get an astounding ~NO WAY~ go for it, and love your decision. (sometimes it's hard to feel a ~yes~ from God, but that gut-wrenching, mind-numbing ~NO~ is always discernable ;-D)
I wish you the best in your life and in making your decisions ~ I don't know if you are very religious or not, but it may help to remember that you are a Child of God, He loves you, and wants to help you, especially in the hard times, when you have life-changing decisions to make. Involve Him, and you won't regret it. That's ALWAYS worked for me.
