How do you manage?

Yes I do use a heated base in both coops.View attachment 1586233 But I like to provide water outside too in a 60 oz pail in warm weather and a 2 quart rubber bowl in the winter. GC

@GC-Raptor, where did you get your feeder? I love it! I have two plastic ones I got from Tractor Supply and the bottoms will fall off of them occasionally.

I got the feeder in the Pic at TSC. It's the 15# feeder. The cover was bought separately at a local independent farm and feed store. The chain at my Local Ace hardware. GC

No I don't mind. It's called a Harris Farms 15 pound feeder. GC

Well, I checked online at my local TSC and it said the item was in stock. I went there to buy it but they were out...they had a shipment sitting in back but they won't know until tomorrow morning if there is any on the truck. I gave them my name and number and asked if they would reserve one for me if there is. It wasn't a total loss, lol, I needed feed for the girls anyway.

Make sure feed and water stations are full in the morning. Give them a good hour of ranging before locking them up in the run with some scratch and going to work.

I do quick crop checks in the evenings, to make sure everyone has fed well. But I only have four, so that's easy. I do miss watching them range in the evening.

I manage... by not working (for pay). If I actually got paid for the work I do my husband couldn't afford me.

Lol I have one just like you....is your name Barbara? We have the same $$ arrangement.

I top off the feeders and waterers every Saturday morning, although it could go 10 days. Auto door lets them out to fenced run and locks them in at night. If I had to be home everyday to feed and water I would not have chickens.

I feed and water in the morning. I use a rubber pan for feed and give them enough for the whole day.

I feel for you. I hate the time change. I think we should have DST all year, then at least there would be more daylight after work. Before I retired, I used to say I feel like a mole, living in the dark. Luckily for me, I didn't get my girls until after I retired.
