I love picking a theme, then naming them based on color.
Our last flock was alcohol themed, and they had names like "Merlot" and "Tequila".

I was using a theme, of sorts. Names you are more likely to hear in a nursing home than the nursery. But now those names are coming back in style! I have new chicks coming soon, we'll see what happens.

My roosters all get named after professional wrestlers from the 80s and 90s. My hens don’t get names unless the kids name them or they have some distinctive feature—my biggest chicken is called Fatty then I think of the two dozen there are only a couple with anything resembling a name and they’re not very creative. My favorite hen is called Little Brown Hen. I’m too lazy to keep up with naming them all

I name chickens based of color, like I named Ginger the production red Ginger because she is ginger colored. I also do based of themes of the group or "batch" or breed like Dandelion and Buttercup the Buff brahmas. The Buff Brahmas' theme was flowers. I also just look at them like Pixie the Ameraucana, I just looked at her and thought of the name. I do based of features too like Dot the silver laced wyandotte is fat a circle shaped. I do based of breed name like Midnight the Midnight Majesty maran. I do chicken like names too like Omelette the Rhode Island Red.

We named Love, Peck, and Peeper based on what they were like when we got them. A couple came with names that we modified (Rocky --> Roxy). I let others name a few (Pepper, Eggo, Chichetta). The current batch have names my kid liked: Marie, Luiga, Olive.
