Love it!!! I see now I've been picking my chicks up wrong, so glad someone else asked, no we'll practice the 'dangle' method!

I had the girls out for a while today. The wife was out of town. I needed to get them back into a box so I could carry them to the brooder. The slw came. As soon as I set her in the box, she flew out. She didn't come again. LOL. After 90 minutes in the real world... no one wanted to leave. I have no doubt I looked like an absolute fool holding the box closed with one hand while chasing my rir with the other and her screaming PEEP PEEP PEEP!!! Like I was coming after her with a cleaver. She kept running circles around me and the box. First one way then the other.

Sometimes the others get picked up however I manage to catch 'em. LOL. Usually a scoop, but every now and then it's a snatch from above and then I put my other hand under their feet.

My 4-week-old slw makes it easy. I say, "Come to papa. Elevator's going up." Then she hops on my hand and lets me pull her out of the brooder.
It ticks my wife off.

I use both hands to herd my captive and pick him/her up with fingers spread to support. Then I use my body to hold the chick. With my other hand (when its not holding the camera) I cover the chick's head to keep it quiet.
