I always feed my day old (well 3 day old) chicks regular or old fashion oat meal and the little buggers eat like it was good or something. Can someone explain to me the rational of feeding cooked oatmeal to a chick or chicken. Old fashion oat meal has already been partially cooked.
I feed my chicks raw/dry oatmeal. I feel my hens raw/dry crimped oats. As I stated above, the only time I cook oatmeal is when I'm cooking eggs for the girls. I throw oatmeal in with the raw eggs before scrambling to bulk it up and make it go a bit further.
If it makes someone happy to cook up some oatmeal, they should go for it. It's not necessary but the chickens seem to enjoy it that way and cooked oatmeal makes a great vehicle for adding fruits, veggies, mealworms, eggs, BOSS, etc. and stretches the goodies a little further.
