How do you pronounce Cochin?

I've always said Cot-chin, probably because most of the info I've got about chickens (especially in the early days) came from the internet, without a pronunciation guide.

There is a city on the west coast of India called Cochin, although the breed came from China AFAIK.

It is pronounced "co" (like the "co" in co-writer)- "chin" (like the chin that is directly below one's mouth), and the accent is on the "co." Here's a link with the proper pronunciation in a sound wave format that can be played through your Windows Media player: cochin.

Hope this helps,
Robert

Yes, it's ko-chin (long O sound and short I shound)

Cochin is a city of South-west India on the Malabar Coast of the Arabian Sea; colonized by the Portuguese in 1503.
Cochin is also a large domestic fowl of a breed developed in Asia, having thickly feathered legs.

So says my dictionary.
