How do you resist Feed store chicks

That is a dirty, dirty trick!
One that has worked on my hubs too many times.
We ended up with a guinea like that.:D
What about the older chick that peeps to you and hops on the waterer so they can continue peeping to you? When you walk away they get shrill. You have to take it.

All of you that are recomending avoiding the baby chicks ae just fooling yourself. I have tried, but it does not work. I am already dreaming about chicks in the laundry room, checking on them 100 times a day, singing to them, making sure they love me and only me. No, I do not need any more chicks, I have 20, BUT, it is January, and I know chicks are due at Winco soon.
Ihave already talked my self into a few Mille Fleu, because my one must be lonely, right!! I tried to stay away last spring, but secumbed two different times to chicks, guess I am just a weak person. ended up with 3 Golden sex cross who follow me and talk to me all the time when I come to the barn, just started laying. Makes me laugh and helps with this isolation beccause of Covid. Simple things for simple minds.

Why are feed stores bad sources of chick purchases? I am truly so naive about this. Are they hatched without proper meds, or vaccines? I’m asking because my husband purchased our 4 chicks 4 years ago from TSC, and 2 have died at less than 3.5 years of age. I’d like to get more chicks, but want to ensure that I am not the source of the problem if we should not be giving business to these types of stores. Thank you in advance, guys!

The chicks in TSC come from a big hatchery where they just churn out hundreds of chicks. They are not breeding for health or looks, they are breeding purely for money. So, you are bound to get chicks with health problems that die after just a few months or years.
If you want good, healthy chickens that live a long time, you should research strong, hardy breeds and then find a really good breeder that has them. You can look for a place that is NPIP certified, which means that they are part of a program that is working towards stronger and healthier chickens.

The hatcheries for feed store chicks are the chicken equivalent of the puppy mills that provide sickly pet store puppies. I used to work for a huge vet practice and we saw pet store puppies all the time. My sister even got one even after I warned her. She had it for two weeks then ended up with an unfit for sale letter from her vet and a had to return it. I worry constantly about the chicks I get from a local hatchery I don't think I could take the mental anguish of those poor feed store chicks.

I think about all the health issues I deal with from chicks from feed store. If you look closely, or not, the poor things are super stressed, small and walking into each other. Crooked beaks too!

Totally agree!
