How do you show silkies?

I felt everyone has spoken perfectly good English, and are trying to explain that you should go to a "show" first. While the breeders are there, they would be gracious enough to answer the questions of an eager youth like yourself. You said you wouldn't be showing your bird until next year anyway, so take this opportunity to observe and ask questions while the birds are present at these shows...you can learn so much in person. "Showing" won't completely make sense because there are different venues to take your bird(s) to... 4-H, FFA, County and State Fairs, and breed sanctioned shows. Most breeds have an organization website (club)...find your breeds' club and often times the shows will be listed for the upcoming year. Someone posted earlier on this thread shows that seemed to be in your area. Make note of it and see if you can go to these shows. You will get to see firsthand the "competition" and behind the scenes preparations.

Keep asking questions, but please don't be rude by saying someone isn't speaking "English" because you don't understand yet. You'll get there. We all start somewhere.

Also, contact your local county extension office. They are a wealth of knowledge for 4-H and shows available. Good luck.

i wasen't rude! i just said pls speak in english cause everything that was said was over my head since i have never even been to show. so i was asking for a more simple explanation.such as i have no idea what a crest is and in my english that would be "the area ......"

Okay, let's break this down. When you don't understand a term...ask us what it means, or google it. When you imply that someone wasn't speaking English (when they wrote eloquently in English)...it is rude (that was how I took it). You have the best site available to you (BYC) with kind, knowledgeable people here to help you. Keep that in mind. Also, I would recommend going back to the post where you listed your age and edit in the word "youth". As a mom, I would not want my kids posting their age on any site, family friendly or not. Keep asking your questions here, but try to specify what you are asking. When you said "in English", no one would be able to know what you needed clarity on. I will reiterate...READ, READ, READ! We are all still learning, and have questions. You will get there, and pretty soon will be a pro!

The crest is the top of the head (an ornamental tuft/projection on the head). Silkies have it, Polish chickens have it...

WOW, I really like this thread only cause the know how of the chickens,I'm just getting into Sikies and in the future would love to show my chickens. The more ya'll write, The more I'll learn.Keep talking cause I'm sure enough learning.Even though I'm no younster.I'm an old fart that is in chicken school now on BYC. Thank You all again!!! But I have learned how to build my own Incubtor from scratch. from youtube & here.

This thread was so helpful! I was actually debating about showing my silkies or not and this was a deal breaker. My babies are only 2 months old now, though, so what would be the right age for showing them? No one really mentioned that.
