How do you stand it?

Today is day 20 and 1/2. I have a Brower 845 which has that teeny tiny window. I locked-down on Friday. My humidity is 60%. 40 eggs after candling twice.

45 minutes ago I heard peeping. Mother's Day ! I rotated the lid (didn't open) and found one baby in the center area hatched out completely ! I know I have to keep the lid on, but the thought of them in there in the DARK, with only that tiny window for light---augh! Soon I expect to have even more hatched out and they'll all be in there surrounded by these round things and bumbling around.....How do you stand it, not opening the lid to let the hatched ones out? I wish I had a little airlock or something to ease them out....

Either sit on your hands, or pick up some knitting or go do some outside chores during this "I wanna get them out" period. They're okay in there. If they had hatched under mom, it would be even darker! And more crowded!

I know exactly how you feel.

Our first hatch has just occured. We had 3 eggs in a little incubator. One had pippied when I got up this morning and the other two were shifting around. A couple of hours ago 'Vivian' hatched. She is now peeping and flopping around all over the show and my two kids are convinced she is trying to open the lid. They keep explaining to her that she needs to wait!

The other two eggs still haven't pipped though

I am hoping that they'll follow soon, as Vivian will be lonely otherwise.

It's VERY hard to ignore them, as they are making a lot of noise ! I think probably I've got more out, plus I can see at least 2 more pipping through the tiny window. Sheesh, this is difficult. I think if I had a bigger window, I would feel better, because I could see more. Maybe I should rig up a little camera in there. No, that would be going way too far....

Update: Of the 40 eggs, I've got 36 out of shell, three still working away, and one that is not doing a thing. Wow. My first hatch. They came a bit early, because I set them on a Monday and they started Sunday morning.

I did open the 'bator halfway through, though, because it was getting very crowded in there. Opened in very warm steamy bathroom. Humidity in the bathroom was 78%, so I'm thinking that was fine. At that time--about 12 hours after the first one hatched--all eggs had pipped except for that one that's just sitting there.

I didn't expect to feel so exhilerated!
