Ok, I found a wonderful home for my flighty hen, and the next day she PM's me to say the darn bird is eating her other birds eggs! Now I have never seen her doing that here, but with close to 30 hens, I dont keep a close count on whos laying what....

How do we stop this unacceptable behavior, and what is causing it!

We need some help here quick!

You can try to separate her, blow out a few eggs and fill them with hot mustard. Put these eggs in with her so see if that does it. Repeat each day and also make sure that if she lays an egg that you get it out of there quickly. If she does not get to sample anything other than mustard eggs, she may decide that they are not so good after all. If that does not work, then its usually its best to just cull the bird. She will teach the others to eat eggs, so you can see that the problem gets out of control very quickly, and you will have no eggs for yourself.

I have heard that you can fill plastic easter eggs with poop and that stops them. I haven't had to deal with it yet, thank goodness. Good luck.

I stopped mine by rearranging things in the coop to make it look different. adding 5 gal bucket nests, and lots of fake eggs in the nests. I think responding quickly helped. Good Luck.

Lots of BYCers say its about impossible to stop and to cull.
