How do you stop quail from wasting so much food????

I use the same type feeder and mine don't waste any. Make sure they can't tip it over and that you don't put feed in it any higher than the bottom of the holes so they can't scratch it out with their beaks.

i saw this one setup that randall uses, he uses this feeder
2287669103p

and it sits on a cinder block(or anything really to lift it to quail head height so they can't poo in it), then it took a pvc pipe and connected it to it and ran it out the top of the coop so it can hold TONS more feed, and work just like a gravity feeder should, i saw a photo of it around here somewhere, can't find it now.

i'm sure your imagination will work for it.

I did the same from a picture I seen on here, You have to cut the inner ring off and then slide in a 2" to 3" fitting and then you can put a piece of 3" pipe above that depending on how much room you have and a cap. Depending on length you could put many pounds of feed in it.

Ok so how do you stop your quail from wasting so much food

DUCT TAPE! A FEW WRAPS AROUND THE ANKLES AND 1 AROUND THE BEAK AND THEY WONT WASTE ANYMORE FOOD

ha...yea you'll have to hand feed them, which will help their trust in you.

Whenever I've used a feeder with a 'hopper' (like the one posted above with the PVC pipe to increase feed amount) that's when they've wasted the most feed.

And it will always because the way it's designed, the "supply entrance" of this type feeder is so high, gravity allows the feed to fulfill the feed level up to the access rings to the point of almost running over and out. THE KEY to "no waste" is to modify the feeder so the "supply entrance" is much lower that the factory design of these feeders.

THanks everyone for your input. I do have to say I have thought about the duct tape thing! No but really I have tried to reuse the feed but it is like they seem to go poo on it and I couldn';t bring myself to feed it to them even tho' it's there. I used to use the metel feeder but ever since I had a pheasant that almost cut his head off I cringe at the site of those and hope everyone will stop using them!! I will try to raise it and hopefully that will help.
Thanks Again,
Patty
