With all due respect to the DH's in our lives...sometimes they need to be shown a thing or two...LOL.

I would get some roosts and nest boxes set up. you don't want chooks jumpin' all over the eggs for very long do ya?

Just in my situation: I was the one that had to build the coop, roosts and boxes on my own...because my DH dug his heels in when I said "chickens" LOL. Now he's proud of what I've accomplished and so am I.

I say just go for it! get some roosts up!

I agree!!!! When I needed the rear differential in my jeep redone and he took his time I just did it myself!! lol. He had no part in building the coop. or rabbit cages...or cow fence. or....wait...I have him for??? lol

If clean, no wash and stored on the counter. If they're poopy, I wash them, dry them and put them in the fridge.

I don't wash mine. Once in a while if there's poo I wipe it off with a damp towel.

Never go in the fridge.

As for the why: after a ton of reading everything I could find I
learned that refrigerating eggs shortens the lifespan. Since we don't eat them too fast, I want them to last as long as possible.

Mine go straight from the box to the fridge unless soiled. In which case I rub them clean with a cloth or super fine steel wool. No water on my eggs. Depending on the day, we either collect right as eggs are laid or we collect near the end of the day when it's time to put up the chickens for the night. All depends on what else we've got going on.

Eggs for my own personal use, I don't wash and rarely refrigerate--they only go in the fridge if they're already a week or more old, and otherwise hang out on the counter at room temperature. However, because of counter-productive regulations and confused customers, I wash and refrigerate any eggs intended for sale. I do have a regular customer who actually knows a thing or two about chickens and eggs, and she prefers it when I deliver un-washed, un-chilled eggs, but for most of my customers they have to be clean and cold.

I was explaining things to a first tie buyer. I told her all the info & said that mine are unwashed and never chilled, you decide how you want to go from here.

I have one "foody" customer that totally understands it...but the rest do not. And for ease I ended up just washing them all when I had a surplus. When the supply got low it was just me and my "foody" --now I've got molting so no need to to explain or wash anything ...LOL.

I used this advice. I let my customers know they were not going to to washed or chilled and the majority said...."Why would you wash them?" lol and the rest asked why. When I explained they were fine with it. Guess its my area. Most know how things are supposed to be and not a lot of "City folk" who refuse to learn. (Not a bad reference to city folk lol. Just the refuse to learn kind.)
