How do you store your poultry feed?

Looking this up - no they are just about right, if not eat a little less.. Didn't think 7 hens could consume 50 pounds in a month. I had 21 birds last winter. Went through 1 50 pound bag every 2 weeks.[/QUOTE]

The machine emits an ultrasonic sound at 26-74Khz at 105 decibels from the built in speaker and cannot be heard by the human ear or larger animals like chickens, etc. It works for mice, rats, bats, cockroaches, spiders.

What about cats? We have 3 indoor only cats and they occasionally find, disembowel and barf up mice. My emotional vegetarian daughter does not approve of the killing let alone the mouse guts and blood. She also hates spiders. I figure the cats are just doing their job

though, I too, am not fond of the barfed up blood and guts.

Also, what is the range? I don't think we have any bats but if we do, I'd like them to stay around.

I keep mine in leakproof pet food containers. Right now they are under my deck until the feed shed I am having built is done (Friday!) I fill the buckets on the back of my scooter and make the round feeding donkeys, goats, emus and chickens.

Can't wait for Friday so this can be done!

Like so many, we use the galvanized steel trash cans, although I got them through a small hardware store locally, not from the Home Depot. I have a small 10 gallon can and two 20 gallon cans. I keep scratch in the small one and feed in the bigger ones. I leave it in the bags and put the bags in the can with a scoop. I keep all the cans in one of these half-height storage sheds to hide them, protect them from weather and further discourage the raccoons in the area.

We have rodents on and off here and I can tell you for certain that they can and will chew through anything given the opportunity. I had rats chew through a pretty heavy duty pail with a gamma type lid. We live in a pretty suburban area, but have canyons nearby.

ok
Wow, I feel so much better about things that I have done now. Thank you guys for all the upbeat information. I use plastic containers and I store them in
the garage. I hope that we do not have any problems. I do know that metal cans of dog food has been stored and kids left the lid not on totally correct once on the front porch of an old brick home and mice or rats were into it in no time flat.

I have about 34 birds and I am going through about 50 lbs a week. Some is scattered by a granchild outside when she feeds them though.
Does this amt. sound ok?

34 (birds) X .15 (pounds) = 5.1 (pounds) X 7 (days) = 35.7 lbs/week Dainty eaters. (like, all Leghorns)

34 (birds) X .2 (pounds) = 6.8 (pounds) X 7 (days) = 47.6 lbs/week Average eaters. (like, Mixed Flock)

34 (birds) X .25 (pounds) = 8.5 (pounds) X 7 (days) = 59.5 lbs/week Heavy eaters. (like, all Jersey Giants)

Sounds exactly right.

I have mine in a plastic garbage bin.I got it from the dump shop for $4 So far, no rodents have dicovered it, but I'm thinking of getting one of those ultra sonic machines to deter them. They are a great idea! I have to get one.

I keep mine in a plastic dustbin (trash can) next to the coop. What doesn't fit in stays in the bags and I keep it in my house at the bottom of the stairs. (I have a small house and it's the only free space.)
