How do your chickens amuse you? Stories Please....

My cochin pullet likes to listen to mariachi music. Currently she is confined to the house with a strained leg and we discovered her love of the music just this week. She chirps along to it and if you turn it off she really starts to complain. It is hysterical.

Oh Yeah..

I feel sorry for people who only think chickens are chickens.... The "city" people I work with are not amused much by my chicken stories.

GEESE vs. CHICKENs

My 3 geese get muscled out of the feed sometimes and then ask to be hand fed. While I hold a scoop and they eat chickens come along to get in on the action. A goose will quickly grab them at the wing and spin them around flinging them away.
I love to see the mean roos get it

Coriander, Parsley, Oregano, Chives, Sweet Basil, Rosemary... Don't worry, Gabby the chook is still free range with her pals - Lucy, Dot and Phoenix

Just for people thinking of getting a chook - make sure your plants are well established before leaving them within chook jumping range

PS Why did we leave them in chook jumping range?

Well they were perfectly safe for a few months with no chook interference until the new chook showed the old ones that if

they jumped onto the garden, they could jump onto our window sill and look into the house...

I guess Gabby thought she'd give it a go...

We have this big old boxer dog who just doesn't know how big he is. I'm convinced there is no way he would ever harm a chicken. If I put him in the pen for a day with my nineteen Gold Comets he would come out the worst for the wear. In the evening right before dusk I'll let the gals out and feed them some fresh lettuce and corn and any leftover bread. My granddaughters call it PawPaw out watching 'Chicken TV'. I'll give Khaos a milk bone and he'll come over and lay down right in the middle of the hens and try to eat it by himself. Well, the gals see this and they want some of the action too. In a flash they'll be all over him trying to peck away at his treat. He just looks bewildered and tries to avoid them pecking him but he's just not going to get to finish that bone by himself. But on the other hand he loves corn cobs from the fresh corn I throw out to them and when the gals have pecked all they want he'll sneak around and steal and eat them. I've even seem them jump up on his back while he's laying there trying to eat in peace. But 'Chicken TV' is real and I do it almost every evening when the weather permits.
