How does ordering work?

I just ordered from MPC. The babies literally shipped today. I live in Washington and they are coming from Ohio. I am supposed to have them Wednesday per the tracking. The bantams were expensive but I had to have a couple because they are so cute so I would rather pay the extra to have pullets. However, it isn't 100% accurate. There is still a chance I will get a roo. But they do refunds if a roo if discovered between weeks 10-18. At that point I will have to decide to either keep it or try to see if I can find someone local to take the roo (or roos :fl). They also will ship smaller amounts depending on your zip code. However, it means you pay for overnight shipping. The price break is at 15 chicks. Once you hit that, you are offered Priority shipping which was almost half the cost of shipping for me. So guess what, I ordered more chicks to hit 15 and ended paying about the same since the shipping went down and my chick order went up. Good luck to you in your ordering!

Thanks everyone! The reason I decided to go with My Pet Chicken is because they are the only ones who sex the chicks. With my luck, if I went straight run, I'd get mostly males. So, with shipping, this could get quite expensive!
I like you know what you want and seem to have done the research. You either want or need only females and can not afford a male as it is a waste of financial resources.

My Pet Chicken is the only place that sexes bantams. I feel the 10 dollar fee is worth it to get females. All of my chicks have been properly sexed. MPC has a 100% guarantee for sexing mistakes. I have bought a lot of different chicks from them and will continue to do so.

a quick hatchery search revealed that Cackle offers at least some of their bantam chicks sexed.

Yes, I've done quite a bit of research, but still have a lot to learn! I wouldn't mind one rooster -- note I said ONE. I don't want any rooster fights. But I've heard that most bantam roosters are more gentle in temperament than the bigger breeds. Is that really true? The shipping scared me silly. I think it was something like $56. I can't order 15 chicks, as I don't have the space for that many, nor do I want that many, because fewer is better when you want pets that you can pick up, and so forth. I'd only have time to work with a few. So four would be my limit. Didn't notice either that some of Cackle's bantams can be sexed. Guess I need to check out that site again!

I couldn't figure out which bantams cackle will sex. Most of those I would be interested in were not sexed. They also have a 15 chick minimum, and their shipping is pricey too. For me the advantage of My Pet chicken is they sex every bantam breed they sell, and I can order as few as 6 during warmer months. Plus My Pet Chicken is closer to me, distance from you should be a factor too.
