Hello,

I am very new to the poultry world. How soon after hatching is it possible to determine the gender?
Also, is it easy to tell the gender, would a newbie be able to determine gender?
Thanks for any help!

You didn't mention what breed you have. Here are two of the sure ways to tell.

One sure way to tell the difference is in their quacks. Females have a loud hard quack, males have a subdued quiet quack.
On appearance when they get their feathers: A drake (male) will develop one (or two) tail feather that curls upward toward the head when they are between two and four months old. Females do not have this feather.
