How early can lockdown be?

I rescued 2 bantam eggs when my Cochin quit being broody. Unfortunately, I am a terrible judge on what day these eggs are on. I compared to the many charts across the internet, and I can't figure it out for sure. I am too worried I'll kill them by deciding wrong.
What is the earliest an egg can go on lockdown? What happens if I'm late for lockdown?

I will post pictures tonight, but my house is too well lit even with the lights off right now. I want to get the best image I can to show you all. I candled two days ago and the chicks take up about 3/4 of the egg.
Any tips and info are greatly appreciated!!

If the chick is taking up as much as 3/4 of the egg, I would say you were around day 14-16. Not absolutely sure though, perhaps others will chime in. @WVduckchick, @KikisGirls what do you think?

You can wait until the air cells begin to draw down. Internal pip will happen shortly after drawdown

Well... My question was answered!
Went to candle, I picked up first egg an the chick was really moving and took up the ENTIRE egg. (Minus aircell)
Picked up the second egg... It JUMPED and started screaming at me! I candled and it pipped the aircell. So I went ahead and put them on their sides and increased humidity.

NEW QUESTION! I put the aircell pipped egg on it's side, with where the aircell was pipped facing the sky, is that okay?

@WVduckchick, I have had a moderately successful hatch today, 14 babies so far but I just now had a horrible thing happen. My own BCM egg in full zip got stuck so I helped him along a bit and put him back in for him to finish and left to go do something with my son. Came back 5 mins later to find him dead, still warm. I wish to heaven I had just got him out the whole way. He was sooooo close, darn it.. Oh well, a few more coming including one of my only two CCL that is zipping now and the other still alive but not due for a day or so. None of the Lav. Orps. are going to make it I dont think.
