How far can you hear your rooster???

I can hear my roosters from about 1/4 mile away. Everyone who has commented on hearing them has liked the sound. If somebody doesn't- too bad! I'm zoned agricultural! They shouldn't have bought country property! I had Bobwhite quail in the suburbs of New England a few years ago and all my neighbors loved their call.

we have 4.5 acres unless the chickens are closed up you can hear them from everywhere on the property even further., However we are zoned rural and dont have any neighbors so it doesnt matter.

I wouldnt ask..but thats just me.
Cause if you ask and they say no but you end up with one anyways they are going to probly think you did it out of spite.

I could hear the roosters that are a good few acres away. I guess it just depends on the roo

I like the sound, but I like chickens

My BO roo is so quiet I can't believe it. He does crow, but I can't hear him much outside of the coop, which is good, because my neighbor didn't want me to have a rooster, now that he's proven himself to be fairly quiet she doesn't mind him. I'm keeping him!

My coop is about 100 ft from the house and I can hear Dexter plainly, though somehow I have just incorporated it into the background noise and I don't really hear him at all unless I'm listening for him. I work shift work and don't even notice him if I'm sleeping unless he sounds distressed. My neighbors live about 100 yards away from the coop (I'm in the country) and they tell me they hear him occasionally but enjoy the sound. However, I've noticed that if I listen for him I can hear him from my parents' house (based on who has chickens and who doesn't and where the sound is coming from) and they're about 1 mile away as the crow flies. Of course, he's very polite and never seems to start before 0600 or so (unless I'm just oblivious until then!)

I love it that so many people real close to neighbors have roosters! Way to change the face of suburbia!!

Seriously, I wish I had figured out how amazing living with chickens is earlier... I only wish we had a less loud roo - on three acres, I hear him (Jersey Giant, loud and long crow) over three miles away... And we live in a heavily wooded area.
