How far can you hear your rooster???

We're on .93 acre in a subdivision in the country... our mailing address is a town that isn't even in this county

... so we're definitely not in any town or city limits. Our subdivision does not have an HOA. It has some restrictive covenants that have never been enforced and I don't know who would enforce them.

My question... how do I find out if we're zoned to be able have chickens or not? One of my neighbors in this subdivision said she is zoned as a mini farm (she has several acres, 3-4, w/ chickens and goats.) I'd like to know about my property. Is this something I can find on my county's website? If so, what should I look for? Thanks!

i dont know how your county is set up but around here you go to the town hall if your outside town limits you ask the township zoning guy. Maybe ask your neighbor how they got set up or if they know. I never asked because neighbors have them and its a rural community.

I have 4 acres to put my new coop, should I just put it waaaay far from the house (collecting eggs will be a pain

My neighbors hate crowing

they think its super annoying but I love the sound, so...Whats my best choice?

How far can you hear your rooster crow? hear them well enough to be considered "annoying"

Hello✨ I really do appreciate that we all have certain preferences.

in the world we live in…..
I also appreciate that it is essential to inhabit the same area / the same planet / etc. to respect the needs of other people.

SLEEP and good sleep is fundamental and crucial for everyone. Sleep is not something that human beings can do without…. and when people are sleep deprived in any way…. it affects every bit of their health on every level, and every bit of their life.

I have had friends who have chickens that lay eggs - with or without - roosters ….and the eggs and the chickens are great either way.

It seems that the one thing people who buy roosters don’t understand:
is that the roosters crow travels very far and very loud
- and deprives a large number of people of having a good sleep.

This is not about being selfish or ego-centered; this is about an absolute necessity in life.

and what is interesting to myself - as someone who has lived near or stayed with friends near - people who are roosters….
is that chicken do lay eggs, even without roosters
- and then your entire neighborhood….
- and beyond, because the sound travels so far & so loud ….
gets to sleep, gets to have a decent life, and gets to have a better chance at everything they do.

I hope the people who are purchasing roosters - in an area that is where anyone can hear them - will please consider this. It is one of the very very very most disturbing additions to any neighboring living space.

IF - I wanted to do something in my home area, that was disturbing to large numbers of people ….
waking them up in the early morning hours (when people often sleep the most deeply)…..keeping them from going to sleep at night early (if they wish, or need to)….
I would not be able to sleep myself, and I would not feel good about it.

HOW would you feel…..
- if a neighbors’ teenager started practicing with their drum set, in the middle of the night - when you were trying to sleep …?
This is actually just as disturbing.

SLEEP DEPRAVATION is a medical condition, and leads to many more physical, mental and emotional issues.

The one thing about this that I often find curious …..
is wondering how the people in the house, who own the rooster ….
sleep themselves?
—since everyone, within such a large is being woken up by the crowing…?

Many Thanks for your understanding.
✨🙏✨
