I am about 4 miles from a Wal-mart. I try not to enter the place! I would rather give my money to the local hardware stores and grochery stores and do as often as possible. When I have to go in there, I go in get what I need and get out. I support the little man as often as possible!

Which one of the 4 nearby should I reference?! Yep, we have a few but I rarely shop there because I am so tempted to buy things on impulse that I WANT instead of groceries that I NEED, haha! "No Travis, there is no bread for a sandwich, but look how cute my new flannel pjs with skiiing penguins on them are!!" 17 year olds don't understand why there is no grub in the house, haha!! sooo...I hardly ever go in walmart...

We have 2 stores about 16 miles in either direction from us. Both in different counties.

I don't particularly enjoy shopping at Walmart but when you live in rural America and there is the choice of groceries from FoodLion, the other FoodLion and the high end FoodLion renamed Blooms because of a fancy smancy private sundivision/gate community is being built (on a huge stretch of land that was once water and trees and feilds). Our county offers little to nothing in the shopping arena.

The only Mom and Pop shop that sells anything I need around these parts is a flea market type junk shop and a hardware store that is plummetting fast since the family let the daughter take over. There is no customer service and the prices are even too ridiculous to consider. They are putting themselves out of business. I will not pay $6 for two ceiling fan light bulbs that I can pick up at Walmart for $1.95.

Where I live mom and pop and walmart aren't even in competition so I don't have to feel guilty about shopping in a store that is in the middle of a major Central Va / Metro DC mega shopping outlet and mall that sits on the exit ramp of I-95.

Walmart is the lesser of the two evils around here.

About 18 miles.
I do shop there for groceries once every 2 weeks. But for in between I go to the little mom and pop which is 3 miles away. Isn't worth the gas money to drive 40 miles round trip for a loaf of bread and a gallon of milk, even tho I pay a few cents more for things at the mom and pop.
