Tried 3 times and the results are:
Ping; 906, 850, 843
Download; .52 .51 .38
Upload; .17 .12 .11
The third one I loaded a page while the test was being taken, to see if the numbers would be different...YUP!

Is this fast? This is the first time I've had cable

.....My family dreams of the day our internet is that fast...Heck We'd be happy with just unlimited bandwith!

*copied from my earlier edited post* Those in my postition may find this helpful, I know my family has!
http://www.hageltech.com/dumeter/about We had a free version for a while to test it out, but dad later bought a better version for all of our computers. It's fantastic and really helpful for watching your bandwith usage.

EDITED: My download is sometimes up to 1.2Mbps, I know because sometimes when a video or huge pictures are loading that's what the DU meter says. My internet is very unpredicable when it's going to be snail pace or fast (to me, slow to most of you). Today, it's really fast..which makes the results all the more pitiful

thats pretty bad....if you are on a wireless router?? try the speedtest again while you are plugged into the router directly and turn off your wireless, then try again. if there is a big difference then you need a better router. just about any that are draft N will be sufficient.

Couldn't figure out how to get the result box to show up here but my test was:
Download 1.63 mb/s upload 0.12 mb/s and ping 875ms.
Also I am 86% slower than the rest of the U.S.
That's about the only downside of living way out in the country but since I switched from
dial-up to wildblue I love my speeds now. I just downgraded to wildblues mid level package
also so I am running just a tad slower. Still a whole lot faster than when I go next door to my mom
and dads to show them how to do something online.
We are supposedly going to be getting DSL out this way within the next year so I may see how it compares to wildblue
since my contract with them is almost up now.

Other than your high ping you have the speed of DSL.

I wonder if the high ping makes my speed seem slower? When my friend who has DSL comes over she says my connection speed is a lot slower than hers.
The main drawback of satellite for my family (besides bad weather) is the low amount of gigs we can download in a 30 day period (17). There are only 3 of us using it but we can't watch youtube videos or download big files, such as windows updates, or we go over our limit. With DSL or cable we wouldn't have any limits. AT&T has no plans to bring DSL to our neighborhood in the foreseeable future and the only cable company around here refuses to run a line to our road. Oh well, I guess we'll stick with what we have.
