I have a Wyandotte hen who has been broody since April. I have broken the cycle twice successfully and tried several times unsuccessfully. I don't keep roosters, so there is no chance of her hatching any eggs. She has also recently started breaking and eating other hens' eggs. She has become so nonproductive/counter-productive that we are weighing her future options with us.
So, how long will they stay broody? It depends on the bird. You may eventually have to intervene and try to break the cycle, but that is still no guarantee that the hen will not revert back after a few weeks.
Good luck.
