How friendly are your peahens?

We currently have two peacocks and two peahens. Our peafowl have always been much more stand-offish than our other birds. Because of this, I see it as a challange to get them to trust me. I am always trying to get them to eat out of my hand and get more use to me. One lady had tamed right down. She will sit right next to me on step, eat from my hand, and even let me stroke her back.

Is this unusual for a peahen that wasn't raised by hand? How tame are your peahens?

I never made pets of my peas per say but they trust me, i can handle them when the need arises and they still follow me, come when their called, go on walk abouts with me and eat out of my hand i have their trust and that is what makes me us happy together here.

I have a strong bond with my peas, i am retired so i get to stay home and be with all my birds all the time because i am always outside working on something , i absolutely hate the indoors and always have.

I've had my IB peacock for a year and a half or so, he was very fearful when i got him, hadn't had the best treatment for his first 18 mos. Today, he roams the property, this morning he was inside my house, visiting...he doesn't like to be touched but will look over my shoulder when i'm on my knees weeding, perfectly happy to eat from my hand, comes running to greet me when i get home. my new peahen is still caged, I'm afraid she'll run off, she's very spooky. Only had her two weeks, i'm still debating how long i need to keep her shut up.

I have discovered that this peahen is lonely since her sister-friend has gone broody. She stay in our coop or on our deck most of the time, following guineas and pecking our young chickens on the head. She has gotten more and more friendly, letting my stroke her back in exchange for some feed. She shows no interest in the male peacock the courts her a few times a day. She's just an independent woman!
